Terms of Use

1. A free, best-effort service

Mapfetti helps you create and explore maps and visualizations. We make reasonable efforts to keep the service and included information useful and accurate and to investigate and correct reported issues. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, error-free results, comprehensive coverage, or a particular time for corrections. Features, example datasets, and source services may change or become unavailable.

2. Verify before relying on a map

Data, geographic boundaries, names, coordinates, dates, labels, joins, calculations, and visual encodings may be simplified, incomplete, outdated, disputed, or incorrect. Examples may be illustrative rather than current or authoritative. Check the original sources, dates, units, geographic matches, calculations, and final output before you use, publish, or rely on a map.

You choose whether and how to use Mapfetti and are responsible for your decisions and the maps you share. Mapfetti is not professional medical, legal, financial, engineering, surveying, navigation, or emergency advice. Do not use it as the sole basis for safety-critical decisions or to determine legal property or territorial boundaries. Displaying a boundary or name does not endorse a territorial claim.

3. Guest use, your account, and content

You can create maps, modify examples, and export images without an account. A free account is required to save projects for later editing, publish maps, or create embeds. These terms apply to guest and account use. You must be legally able to accept these terms and meet applicable account-age requirements. Keep your sign-in secure. Submit only data and other content you have permission to use, and respect privacy, intellectual-property rights, and applicable law. Do not upload confidential information or sensitive personal information about yourself or others.

Guest drafts are temporary and are not a storage or backup service. Export an image or save to your account before leaving. Refresh may preserve a draft, but recovery after closing a tab, clearing storage, browser failure, or session expiry is not guaranteed. An exported image is not an editable project file.

You retain your rights in your content. You give Mapfetti the limited permission necessary to host, store, process, and display it to provide the features you choose. Saving a project does not publish it. Publishing makes a snapshot, including its map data, accessible through a public viewer and embeds and lists it in Community for signed-in members. There is currently no unlisted option. Later draft edits stay private until republished. Unpublishing stops future access through Mapfetti but cannot recall downloaded copies. If you share an exported map through another service, its terms and visibility settings apply.

Do not misuse the service, distribute malicious content, evade access controls, or interfere with other users. We may restrict use reasonably necessary to address abuse, security risks, or legal obligations.

4. Sources, credits, and other services

Third-party datasets, boundaries, software, and services have their own terms and licenses. Check those requirements and retain required credits, including the visible Mapfetti credit in maps and exports. A source citation does not guarantee accuracy or permission for every use. We do not control third-party availability or content.

5. Privacy

The Privacy Notice describes account information, saved projects, service providers, and your choices. We do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. Account and project information is processed to provide and protect the service; the service is not anonymous.

6. Warranties and responsibility

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Mapfetti and its included data are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of accuracy, completeness, availability, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Your use and reliance on outputs are at your own discretion and risk.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Mapfetti is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses, including lost profits or opportunities, arising from use of the service or reliance on its data or outputs. These terms do not exclude or limit liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including applicable mandatory consumer rights. This disclaimer does not excuse obligations imposed by law.

7. Changes, leaving, and reporting problems

We may update these terms and will ask account users to accept material changes before further use of account features. The version you accept and acceptance time are recorded with your account. You may stop using Mapfetti at any time. You can delete saved projects from My projects and contact us about account deletion or privacy requests. Technical backups and records necessary for security or legal obligations may not be removed immediately.

Report incorrect data, broken features, rights concerns, or privacy issues to support@mapfetti.com. Include the affected map or dataset, the issue, and an authoritative source where possible. Do not include passwords or sensitive data.
